In other news here’s what Todd MacLean from The Guardian in Charlottetown, PEI had to say about our show there last Friday:
“My night started at The Globe on Richmond Street, which played host to one epically outrageous funk band — a nine-piece act that nearly blasted the place apart with its grooves. The band was called Five Alarm Funk. Hailing from Vancouver originally, it has been making waves on the club and festival circuit for the past half-dozen years, wowing and sending audiences everywhere it goes into frenzies.
And last Friday was definitely no exception to this track record.
“This is not what I expected when I pulled in here for dinner this evening!” the shirtless drummer Tayo Branson called out at one point, as the crowd responded in roars.
“Charlottetown, you guys know how to party! This song’s about aggressive facial hygiene. It’s called Wash Your Face.”
The band then ripped into another monstrously airtight funk groove, propelled by three different percussion kits (including congas and timbales), two electric guitars, a bass and a trumpet-trombone-sax horn section that just killed in its cutting unison riffs. And all of this was coming from a group of costumed dudes who just never stop making faces and hilarious gestures at the crowd.
I looked around me at one point, and not one person was standing still. That’s when you not only know it’s one jacked intoxicating groove going on, but also that it’s simply one sweet party.”
